Household Babić

The Babić household is located in the village of Zupci, in the municipality of Bar, a peaceful area rich in forest and agricultural landscapes. The family owns olive groves over 300 years old and mulberry trees over 200 years old. On the farm, you can see cows, goats, sheep, and many cats. In the central part of the household, there is guvno (a threshing floor) where wheat used to be threshed. Guests can also pick St. John’s wort, thyme, nettle, and other medicinal herbs.

There is a village spring and a river nearby. Ribnjak Monastery, the Church of St. Nicholas and the Church of St. John, which are also viewpoints, are located 4 km from the household. The old road from Bar to Virpazar passes by the farm, with a turnoff leading to Stari Bar.

Gastronomy is a key aspect of the Babić family. As in the good old days, guests can taste products from the farm, such as olive oil, juices, and jams made from wild pomegranates, figs, and mulberries, as well as a fig cake and homemade rakija from dried figs and mulberries.

Among the traditional dishes from this region you can try starters such as prosciutto, sausages, and Zubački cheese unique to this area. For main dishes,, there is prijesnac—a dish made from cheese, rice, and a lot of eggs, and obarak—a dish made from seasonal vegetables like chard, collard greens, and potatoes; as well as priganicas, pies, and for dessert, tespišta—a sweet dish made from oil, cornmeal, and white flour, topped with syrup. The most important traditional dish is stufada, made from large pieces of meat slowly stewed with tomato sauce or gravy.

The hostess, Mirjana, is a successful entrepreneur. Along with her family, she has developed the brand Olivmont, which produces natural soaps made from olive oil and laurel essential oil.
